Sing Praise, Sing Praise

I realized this morning that living in my house is like living in a musical. Some of you who read this may laugh, remember our conversations about wishing we lived in a world where people randomly broke out into song (Snow!). Well, in our house, we do. It's not always random. For example, my brothers are awakened by my mother five days a week with a rousing rendition of "It's time to get up, it's time to get up, it's time to get up in the moooooooooorning!" But today it was completely random. It's hard to say how it begins, but usually someone says something, which reminds someone else of a song, and before you know it, we're all joining in. Case in point: Dad is discussing with Ryan (twin #2) the importance of graciously disagreeing with people, triggering a chorus of "Potaaato, potaahhhto, let's call the whole thing off". Or how about Dad sneezing four times with a reply of "On top of spaghetti, all covered with cheese, I lost my poor meatball, when somebody sneezed" from all of his children. And nothing compares to the fact that all four of us kids can sing along to the entire Jonah VeggieTales movie, and can sing a few of the songs entirely from memory, as we have proved to our parents many times during car trips to distant places. Of course, we don't only sing VeggieTales in the van. We have a large repetoire of pieces learned at Vacation Bible School. Those are the best. Sometimes I think my parents would like to be able to have a conversation when we are traveling to Grandma's house for Christmas, but many years in the future, when we're all grown, I'm betting my money that as they are driving down the highway to visit their grand-kids, you'll be able to hear them singing, "Jonah was a prophet (oooh-oooooh), but he really never got it (sad but true). If you've been watchin' you can spot it (a doobity doo), he did not get the point".

  • Most people might find this surprising... but this is you, Amy Schott, and your family. My point, I've come to expect things as such from you, and now rather enjoy them. Now... if only you had a balding, thicker man to frolick behind such scenes of singing...
